When I thought of “typical pregnancy symptoms” my mind always went back to that scene in Knocked Up. The one where Katherine Heigl’s character barfs into a waste basket at work while her coworker looks on in horror. That was my idea of what the first trimester would look like for me.
In reality, my first trimester didn’t look anything like that. The morning sickness never came. In its place was plenty of constipation, the sorest boobs of my life, and weird cramps that had me checking google constantly to make sure cramping was actually okay (which it is, to an extent).
There was also bloating. Crazy amounts of bloating that quickly made all of my favorite jeans too tight to be comfortable. On a particularly bloated afternoon about 8 weeks in, my mom remarked about how wonderful it was that I was already starting to show. I told her with a self-conscious laugh that I probably wouldn’t be “showing” if I had been about to poop in the past two days. Oh, bloating.

Now that I’m two weeks into the second trimester I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in the way I feel. My energy is almost up to where it was before I was pregnant (woohoo!). I don’t feel nearly as bloated or constipated most days (double woohoo!) and while my boobs are still sore, they are nowhere near as wince-inducing as they were a month ago (hallelujah, praise the Lord!).
I actually feel pretty good so far in this trimester. I plan on taking full advantage of the second trimester energy burst while I still have it too! On the agenda for the next few months: some semblance of a workout routine (twice a week would be lovely, with more frequent stretching), healthy meal preps (possibly my most ambitious goal), and submitting all of the paperwork for my nonprofit to be a 501(c)(3) registered (also ambitious, yet somehow less daunting than meal prepping ha!).
